Blood Pressure
Blood pressure regulation is one of the vital functions of the kidneys. Pressure sensors in the kidneys help regulate systemic blood pressure. When these sensors are damaged by chronic-kidney-disease, hypertension results, which in turn damages the kidneys further -- creating a destructive feedback loop.
Key Facts
- Kidneys contain blood pressure sensors that regulate systemic pressure
- Damage to kidney sensors leads to hypertension
- Hypertension then accelerates kidney damage (vicious cycle)
- blood-pressure-monitoring is part of CKD IRIS sub-staging
- Species: dogs and cats
