Immune-mediated foot pad disease in cats (pillow foot) with characteristic mushy, swollen pads.
Key Facts
- Classic 'mushy' balloning appearance of foot pads
- Multiple feet affected (usually not just one)
- ~50% of affected cats are FIV-positive
- Immune-mediated basis with plasma cell infiltration
- Doxycycline is treatment of choice (immunomodulating properties)
- ~50% respond after 2 months of doxycycline
- Prednisolone or cyclosporine for non-responders
