Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex

Group of inflammatory skin lesions in cats driven by eosinophil dysfunction, usually allergic in origin.

  • Three forms: indolent ulcer (lip), eosinophilic plaque (belly/thigh), eosinophilic granuloma (chin/thigh)
  • Usually has underlying allergic basis (flea, food, or environmental)
  • Indolent ulcer on upper lip margin is classical and destructive if untreated
  • Eosinophilic plaque: raised, raw, extremely itchy
  • Biopsy may be needed to distinguish from tumors
  • Treatment: address underlying allergy + steroids, flea control, diet trial, antibiotics
