Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex
Group of inflammatory skin lesions in cats driven by eosinophil dysfunction, usually allergic in origin.
Key Facts
- Three forms: indolent ulcer (lip), eosinophilic plaque (belly/thigh), eosinophilic granuloma (chin/thigh)
- Usually has underlying allergic basis (flea, food, or environmental)
- Indolent ulcer on upper lip margin is classical and destructive if untreated
- Eosinophilic plaque: raised, raw, extremely itchy
- Biopsy may be needed to distinguish from tumors
- Treatment: address underlying allergy + steroids, flea control, diet trial, antibiotics
