Aural Hematoma
An aural hematoma is a collection of blood within the ear flap (pinna) caused by a ruptured blood vessel from vigorous head shaking or scratching due to ear disease.

- Occurs when a pet with uncomfortable ears shakes and scratches vigorously
- Blood accumulates within the ear flap tissues
- Treatment: surgical removal of blood clots with ear bandaging under anesthesia
- Without surgery, the ear may scar into an abnormal "cauliflower" appearance
- Surgery may be deferred if the hematoma is not blocking the ear canal for medication access
- The underlying ear infection must also be treated
